EU Update & The First Mutanimals Dev Diary
almost 4 years ago – Sun, Jul 26, 2020 at 01:36:10 AM

Cowabunga, dudes!

As some of you may have seen over in the comments, the games have successfully set sail on schedule. Now, for the surprise reveal…

All of our EU backers who’ve so patiently supported us through these delays will be receiving 15% off their Mutanimals expansion!

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, we’re excited to share the first segment of the Mutanimals dev diary with our very own Pete Walsh. Now, since this is an ultra-secret sneak peek, this is all prototype and not final -- including the art. With that being said, here’s the man himself to introduce Mondo Gecko!

Mondo Gecko has always been one of my favourite characters from TMNT. I remember the first time I saw the episode "Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko" and thought how radical is this reptile!

The Archie origin stands out as one of the best Mondo moments for me though, and the awesome figure by Playmates. Getting the chance to design Mondo was super exciting, I wanted to celebrate all the things that make him fun, exciting, and unique.

Mondo's core ability Total Grindage is all about as you guessed, grinding. Grinding is an excellent terrain move in TMNT Adventures but unfortunately, there is little opportunity to use it. This changes with Mondo, he can grind along the edge of any prop token on the map (prop being a token that represents a physical object on the map like a bench, trash can, dumpster, etc). This opens a world of opportunity to explore.

The second part of his ability is to move along (but not end his move action on) blocking terrain. This is essentially Mondo using his gecko prowess to crawl across the wall ignoring enemies. Paired with his skill card Stealth-O-Rama, where he can essentially turn himself invisible (as long as he doesn't make an action other than move), makes Mondo an excellent infiltrator and stealth character.

Mondo isn't without attacking skills, Time To Get Gnarly and Mute Grab (or Newt Grab as some of the playtesters have called it), give him the opportunity to lay down some hurt too.

Mondo’s three other skills are unique and tailored just to him.

Reptile Tendencies is an Instant card that lets him evade an attack by dropping his tail. He will need to save up his Focus to pay a cost to return it to his hand though, this simulates the time for it to regrow.

Off The Wall grants Mondo the Mobility trait. This is a new keyword first appearing in Mutanimals. This allows Mondo to ignore terrain and enemies while moving (except blocking). This really solidifies the infiltration aspect and movement for Mondo.

Lastly is one of my favourites. Have you ever pulled off that perfect killer grind and wanted to flip into a manual to keep that trick combo going just so you can grind again? Well want no more, 50:50 To Manual To 5-0 is exactly that! It allows you to pay an extra move icon to move to another piece of grindable terrain and then keep on grinding!

Feel free to add Mondo to any of your games that you are playing at home. All feedback is welcomed. For Action dice I recommend using a D6 to roll, then use dice placeholder tokens to spend (just like you would with normal Action dice).

You may also see some new icons here.

The infinite/constant icon is an extension to the character’s core ability. These skills are always active, even when knocked down and don’t count as a skill card played on your turn.

The lightning bolt is a reminder that this is an instant card. It can be played at certain times (when directed in the card text) and in some cases doesn’t count as a card played on your turn.

Finally, in Mutanimals all characters will be able to be played 3 different ways (Hero, AI Villain and 4v1 Villain)! Here is a sneak peek at the AI villain sheet for Mondo! You can sub Mondo in for a villain leader in any of your favorite missions, be warned though, he's fast and will deliver some gnarly blows.

Also, for the Easter egg hunters out there, check out the sewer lair tile and you may see a Mondo one hidden in there.

Before we sign off for the day, we also wanted to share that the AUGS Community Drive is once again taking submissions. Share your painted minis and homebrew creations here. Who knows, you might just see them pop up on the IDW Games page! That’s all for today folks. Until next time, we’ll see you down in the comments.

EU Update & Dev Diary Teaser
almost 4 years ago – Sat, Jul 11, 2020 at 03:34:54 AM

How’s it hanging, shellheads?

We’re back with another biweekly update. Most importantly for our EU backers, the games are currently being packed up and will be setting sail on July 12th! We’ve heard all of your feedback over the past few weeks and Pete and the team are working on a little surprise to help ease the wait. Your patience is very much appreciated and we count ourselves lucky to have you in our AUGS community.

Since we’ll be hopping on every two weeks with an update until fulfillment is complete, we’ve asked Pete to use a segment of these posts as a mini dev diary for Mutanimals. This means that you’ll be the first folks to see new content and try it out. Keep an eye on your inbox in two weeks for the first prototype segment!

What’s up, Sewerbrewers?

We’re back with another update. First up, EU Backers. As of this posting, the games are still in China being relabelled. Based on the current challenges we are running into, they are currently on track to arrive in the EU in late August. This isn’t what we wanted or expected, but we’re doing our best to ensure games are moving smoothly. If you need to change your shipping address, please be sure to let us know ASAP with a quick email to [email protected]. If you’ve already messaged us your new info here on KS, you’re all set!

Secondly, a support update. We’ve finished going through emails and messages on both KS and Facebook. Those of you waiting on replacement parts or missing pledges should have received a reply early this week from the amazing Gene over in our warehouse. Again, if anything has slipped by us, please bump those messages -- we are online every day to check in with you guys.

Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Who better to introduce the Virtual Homebrewer’s Kit than the legendary Pete Walsh himself?

To celebrate our fantastic community and vast wealth of TMNT lore, we’ve made a scenario creation kit to help all the homebrewers share their awesome ideas. The kit comes in the form of a PSD file that stores all of the scenario assets from the City Fall and Change is Constant core boxes: map tiles, tokens, and character portraits. You will need some basic graphics editing knowledge and a program that can edit PSD files to take advantage of it, but there are several free, powerful tools available including GIMP. If you can’t manage that, there will likely be some technically-inclined community members that can help bring your scenario to life at the community page

The file has been set up as a single 8.5” x 11” page for easy at-home printing; exporting to a PDF is likely the best solution for sharing within the community. While our team is excited to share this tool with you, it’s just a first version. We look forward to hearing how the community is using it and welcome any constructive feedback, as we hope to improve on the tool and add additional content down the road. Download the kit below, then continue reading for some tips on creating your own scenarios!

So you’ve decided to make your own TMNT homebrewed battle. There are a few things when designing a battle that should be taken into consideration. Firstly, you need to set the scene: select 1-2 tiles where you want to do battle. Pay attention to the terrain types you’ve chosen. Some villains fit better than others in different settings. Secondly, as you've probably guessed, it’s villains! It’s always good to start with 1 leader and 1 minion type for every 2 heroes you want in the battle. Remember that not all villains are built the same; Shredder is going to give you more trouble than Hun for instance. How many spawn points you add will also affect how fast those minions come back to haunt you. Thirdly, play play play! Building a great balanced battle takes patience and playthroughs. The better you understand the figures' abilities, movement, and spawning, the better your battle will be! Lastly, don’t be afraid! Jump in and join the other Sewerbrewers and get creative!

That’s all for today folks. Until next time, we’ll see you down in the comments!

Support Notes & A Big Surprise
almost 4 years ago – Sat, Jun 13, 2020 at 09:50:00 PM

Greetings, shellheads!

We’re back with another update. While the games are not confirmed to be on a boat back to the EU yet, we have worked up a surprise that we think might just make up for that fact. First though, a few administrative notes.

•All Kickstarter messages have been responded to going back to the start of the campaign. If you have any outstanding issues from before that time, please bump your message and we’ll get you taken care of.

•As of this posting, we’re still sifting through the last few support emails but if you don’t have a response by Monday, bump away. This also goes for social media (you know the drill, bump it up!).

Notes over, now time for the nifty bits!

If you’re looking for a fun way to pass some time, or if you’re still on the fence about BTAS, we’ve got just the activity for you. Pete Walsh and crew are currently taking feedback on this version of the rulebook.

No, that’s not the big surprise. We know that most of you are members of the Facebook group and have already been adding your commentary. What we actually have in store for you is…

*drumroll please*

A free digital homebrewer’s kit! As of our next update, you’ll have all the tools you need to make your own scenarios. Turtles in Time, anyone?

That’s all for today, we’ll see you down in the comments. Cowabunga!

Customer support and shipping update
almost 4 years ago – Sat, May 30, 2020 at 12:26:28 AM

Hey Shellheads,

First off, we hope everyone is doing well given the state of the world. We know things are a bit odd with COVID. For us and the gaming industry as a whole, things are changing and we are adjusting. But what does this mean for you?

UPDATES

Updates will be coming every 2 weeks until shipping is complete.

EUROPEAN AND UK BACKERS

You are our number 1 priority at the company. Our timetable remains the same as the last update, so we have about 1-2 months left. We fully understand your frustration and we are speeding up every step of the process within our control.

Once the games hit the water for their return journey post labeling (see label details here), we will let you know ASAP. However, normal shipping times across the world have been delayed due to COVID. This is a reality that we cannot control.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT

As we mentioned above, IDW Games has gone through some changes, in particular personnel. This has caused delays in customer support, but we are remedying that today by dedicating more resources to resolving them as quickly as possible. By the next update, we are confident that every email will be responded to and a resolution will be in process.

Again, we know things are a bit odd but your games are arriving soon and issues will be resolved. Thank you for the patience thus far.
